Lamborghini is recalling the Urus SUV, 2023/2024 Performante and S models, due to an issue that could cause the hood to detach at high speeds.

The recall affects 2,133 vehicles, but Lamborghini estimates that only two percent of them actually have the defect. The flaw lies in the hood latch rivets, which may not be properly formed due to a manufacturing issue from the supplier, allowing the hood to open or detach completely when reaching speeds above 150 kilometers per hour.

The automaker detected the problem in August of last year after receiving two complaints in Europe regarding misalignment of the Urus hood and fender. After investigation, Lamborghini did not find any more cases, but worked with the supplier to improve the manufacturing process.

However, in February, a Urus in Indonesia had the hood completely detach while driving at high speed, leading to a new investigation that confirmed the defect in the rivets.

Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by the end of June and early July. Lamborghini will advise customers to bring their SUVs to dealerships for an inspection, where the problem can be resolved through hood repairs, installation of a latch support plate, or both.
